About QA
Quest Atlantis is a multi-user virtual environment
that immerses children in educational tasks as part of an online adventure
to save Atlantis from an impending disaster. Quest Atlantis was designed
and developed by a team at Indiana Universityand with the support of a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant. It
combines elements of play, role playing, adventure, and learning, allowing
members to virtually travel to three-dimensional Lands where they select
developmentally-appropriate quests and talk with other questers and
mentors.
Quest Atlantis has integrated strategies used in the commercial gaming environment as well as lessons from the educational research on learning and motivation to develop a context for participation that is both engaging and educational. Completing quests requires Questers to engage in computer-based simulation activities as well as participate in socially and scientifically meaningful activities such as conducting environmental field studies, designing museum exhibits, or developing real-world action plans.
