In 1938 the original wooden school building was moved across the road to be made into Ashgrove West kindy and the brick building was built in the Ashgrove school grounds. The "first stage" was opened on Saturday March 19 1938. It cost 6884 pounds. Further planned extensions and final completion were interrupted by World War 2.

The original wooden school building was later moved from the Ashgrove West Kindy site to Camp Constable, Mt Glorious.

Ashgrove State School oval was made using picks and shovels and horse and cart. It used to be a cow paddock.
