Swimming Pool Improvment and My Dad Remembers
Keywords
Commentary
In 1972-the Ashgrove swimathon raised $1400 for a grandstand.
My Dad remembers...
My Dad said that in 1972 there was a lot of younger families in the area.
High Point Plaza was a big quenslander house!
The houses were mostly unrenovated Ashgrovian houses.
I asked my Dad how Ashgrove State School has changed and he said this...
The pool was not heated, there was an adventure playground next to the tennis courts, you would have to park on the cement hill for swimming club, there was no loud noises from the quarry (explosives)and there was a verandah on the main building. The uniforms were button up t-shirts that were grey and maroon. My Dad got to be school captain, house captain and swimming champion. He also broke his thumb while playing soccer (his plaster made it easy to hit the volleyball really far). When parade was on there was no under cover area so someone would faint every time on parade. There were also famous people at the school. There was my Aunt(my dads sister) who is Elizabeth Plark who has a memorial at the edible garden under the flag pole. The principal was Mr Harvey and also Mr Killoran (they were both very nice but very strict.
B.W Strachan was Principal.
