Commentary

Mundingburra State School opened on the 22nd of September 1884. There were 56 children enrolled to join the school but on the first day only 38 kids turned up. However, by the end of the year there were 70 children at the school. To build the school, the parents raised 40 pounds and it the 436th school to be built in Queensland. The first school building still remains where it was originally built but it is now used as the staff room. In the early curriculum, the children were learning only a few subjects. Mundindburra's first principal was John Cunningham.
